What's In A Name? Or Rather Our Name?

As Juliet epically said "...What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other word would smell as sweet..." So would FancySexyMe be as awesome if it went by any other name?

It is always interesting to see people's reaction to our name, either they love it or they hate it. We always inevitably are asked how we came up with FancySexyMe, well here is the origin of the name.

We came up with the name back in December of 2008. In search of a name for the company I needed inspiration. I recently rewatched one of my favorite movies Closer (2004) with Natilie Portman, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts and Jude Law, which reminded me back in 2006 I was into the band Panic at the Disco and their album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (dont give me that look I know). What was interesting about that album was that all the songs were titled after quotes from the movie Closer. So I was inspired with that idea.

I checked out the movie again. It gave a long lists of names and I was settled on one name till I notice three words down the list, yup you guessed it FANCY SEXY ME, I fell in love in the name right there and knew it was it, quickly sketched up the logo.

The name oddly enough actually is a question not a statement and is almost always used and defined in the wrong context. The point in movie where the question comes from is where Alice Ayers (Natilie Portman) and Dan Woolf (Jude Law) are arguing and Dan is breaking up with Alice. During the conversation she says "Don't you still fancy me?" for whatever reason I wrote sexy in between fancy and me. So the question as silly as it sounds is (do you still like sexy me?).

So there it is thats where the name comes from - love it or hate it...but seriously people what's in a name?

The Sole-Savers of City Slips

We all know how challenging it gets when making plans with a big group of friends in the city. That's why when the date is chosen, it's time to make big things happen. The hottest restaurant, the hottest club, what's my hottest outfit, and hottest shoes?

This night, it's girls night out-forget the boys, we need some bonding time! So you decide to check out "THE CIRCUS" at Webster Hall where all the party kids and freaks come to play and get down. The night goes on and you're dancing like there's no tomorrow, while the fire breathers and snake charmers speckle the dance floor and the master of ceremonies is narrating the night.

And then it stops.................... It's 4am and time to go home. You haven't stopped moving in in 5 hours, and when you do---WOW- the pain starts to hit.

We all know or have seen "those girls" either limping or walking barefoot at the end of a long night (I for one, am one). But thanks to a stroke of genius, there's no need to put your feet in a bind anylonger thanks to the "Sole Savers" of City Slips.

Punk Rock Peep Show After Party Concert at K&M Bar

After a wild pre-night of burlesque dancing, peep shows, magic, free drinks, raffles, and shopping, the Punk Rock Peep Show jumped ships from SHAG Brooklyn to K&M Bar for the after party & concert series, showcasing 3 local bands from the Williamsburg area.

Located on the corner of N/8th & Roebling, K&M's original sign of Kystyna and Margaret pierogies is still represented from its original days of being a pierogie factory. (And no, they do not serve them behind the bar if you're thinking of a late-night munchie fix) The Art Deco decor is great to check out, as well as the old videos they play on the black&white projection screen
behind the bands.

Headlining the after party was LADYBUG STINGRAY. http://www.ladybugstingray.com/ whose cheeky song "Urge to Surge" is my fav:) Members include Kalen Lister, Christian Mendoza, and Pete Lewis. Check our their EP release party at NuBlu (Avenur C) from 9-11pm on June 4th.

Our first band to grace the stage was Bad Credit No Credit http://badcreditnocreditmusic.com/ , who rocked the stage with their intricate combo sound created from multiple instruments and Carrie-Anne Murphy's contagious vocals.

Lastly, but not least was A Good Problem Rocking a Material World , a brand new collaboration whose leading lady started after from coming from the Bashful. Amazing job & we can't wait to hear the new material:)

Punk Rock Peep Show

Now that things are sort of winding down for a sec, I thought I'd take a moment to recap our Launch party from May 14th:

Just in case you weren't one of the 300 who showed up for the party, or didn't have the chance to check out all the festivities, here's your recap:)

Firstly, a huge shout-out THANK YOU goes to the SHAG Brooklyn girls, Sam & Ash, for teaming-up on this event and allowing us to use there store: http://www.weloveshag.com/ . If you haven't stopped by, it's a place where you can find all things sexy---you too boys;)

Also, to our dancers, "Go-Go Harder" & Mia from The Witching Hour Burlesque who shook their thangs all night long, despite the 200W lighting and humidity from the weather!

In the dressing room we had BabySkinGlove's http://babyskinglove.com/ performance of "Girls Gone Extint" where these sexy lady dinos somehow all fit into that one room which was transformed into the "Land Before Time." Trannysaurus even danced for the crowd, once she was well hydrated!

Downstairs, next to the complimentary Sailor Jerry Rum and PBR's was Max the Magician, who took the liberty of sticking s-words though volunteers' necks.

And also our 3 video installations of peep shows. My favorite was the animatronic peep show-totally bizarre-a busty rabbit headed doll kept flashing me?

Towards the end of the night, before the fashion show, we presented Rachel Kramer Bussel's http://www.rachelkramerbussel.com/casted bust (done at SHAG) with all the artwork by Paigeyhttp://theartofpaigey.blogspot.com/. It's a total masterpiece! And will be display with our body jewelry at SHAG, so everyone can take a gander at it.

Followed by this, was the new Fall Line for Fancy Sexy Me strutted by models outfitted by the amazing & talented Samantha Sleeper who graced the cover of WWD shortly ago. (check out my next blog for more runway details)

Last but not least were the raffle winners, winning up to the grand prize of $275 worth of merch from all party contendors including FSM, SHAG, RKB, Exhale Spa, and Kong Magazine.

All Saints in SoHo

One of my favorite UK brands has landed in SoHo!

All Saints is my go-to when looking for Spring's must have neutrals, washed & worn leathers, textured knitwear and mostly their intricately draped pieces-and the shoes are great too!

The brand was founded in 1994 initially, solely as menswear to Barney's Harvey Nichols, and Harrods with their tailored pieces. Later, and thankfully, in 1998 it introduced its womenswear collections with softer silhouettes and fabrications including their fine gauge knits.

Some of us donate our time, while others may donate money. Who ever thought that putting your best breasts forward, could in turn, lend a helping hand?

Last night at SHAG Brooklyn, Rachel Kramer Bussel did just this, donating the profits of her casted breasts to NURTUREART http://www.nurtureart.org/ , a nonprofit dedicated to helping emerging artists and located locally in Williamsburg, BK. Rachel looked amazing before, during, and after; and it was great to meet someone so down to earth. I'm also thrilled that FancySexyMe's bid for the artwork, won the piece which will display our body jewelry at SHAG once the final touches have been made-complete with Rachel's autograph! We're also loving that all the proceeds will be going back to the community and supporting our local artists.

Another shout-out I'd like to make is to Sam and Ashley who did an amazing job with the casting, and opened a whole new genre of items, areas, and parts of the body which can be casted. SHAG will be hosting an upcoming casting workshop that anyone can sign-up for, called CAST-A-PARTNER on FEB 7TH, for those interested in learning the art of casting, or even just looking for an evening activity. Bring a friend, lover, or mother, and get reconnected.

This weekend hosted the Bowie Ball at Le Poisson Rouge hosted by Deryck Todd. If spandex, sequins, dancing, and androgyny are in your vocab, I hope you didn't miss it. Complete with the hair & make-up stage, a Bowie inspired fashion show, drag queens, and the high energy crowd this venue ensures, this was the party to hit before the end of the year. One of my favorite SNL skits (& I have quite a few) is the one of Mike Meyers as Linda Richman having "Coffee Talk." If you're not aware of this vacleptnous, let me give you a topic, "You park in a driveway, or drive in a parkway." -Discuss-

A few weeks ago, WWD featured an article revealing Zac Posen's new Contemporary/Sportwear line, "Z Spoke," which is suppose to be for a "downtown, edgier girl" looking very similar, if not exactly, to the Marc Jacobs girl-->check it out--> http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/zac-posens-new-venture-2375111// He uses graffiti, pops of mis-matched colors, and challenging silhouettes.

Posen describes this as an "urban hipster quality" and "more attuned to the streets" ($700 for a knit dress? Really? And what hipster is buying this?) And how does this coincide with his evening gowns? Many designers have successfully launched a lower-end line, which reflects to their higher end atheistic, but this one is over my head. Perhaps it's the result from retailers & press urging higher sales.

With this, I'm going to give you a topic, and feel free to discuss over some coffee, and perhaps in a Linda Richman accent:

A Successful SHAG

Last Friday was the Grand Opening for SHAG http://weloveshag.com/- And a successful one if that! Everyone came from all over to show their love & support for Sam and Ashley. Both of their innovation, creative aspects, and hard work conceived this intimate setting for a one-stop shop. Guests were quoted to saying "It feels like a home, I just want to stay and hang out here"

My personal favorite was the "I Rub My Ducky" and the functional marble artwork, great for bedside appeal, and also mutli-purposes for personal pleasures. It was a magical setting, with cocktails and mini Colt 45's for the Brooklyn die-hards:) It was great interacting with the customers, getting feedback on our pieces and seeing the FSM designs in action.

Other highlights included Live Body Painting by dSetia http://bodypainting.dsetia.com/. Check out the site-Pretty amazing artwork-the body is a canvas right? My fav is the alone digital art and the glow in the dark Chinese Dragon:)

Also at the party was Hally McGehean http://mcgeheankids.com/projects/ with her photo paillettes dress made of cheeky images of body parts and any where else your mind can go--think hard:)

If you missed this one-shame one you:) But come and check it out when you're in the area, or make a walk-by before heading out to the bars to pick up a playful accessory for the evening. With the success of this party, I'm sure there will be more to come-so stay tuned shaggers:)

It's Sexy Time!

This Friday marks the Grand Opening for SHAG Brooklyn, a "Sexy Store" in Williamsburg Brooklyn. Founders, Samantha Bard and Ashley Montgomery-Pulido, have created a concept sex store featuring local artists and products ranging from your bed-side favorites to jewelry, fine art, bath, home decor, and many more. It's an all-in-one stop that I'm ecstatic to have in my neighborhood:)
